What We Can Recycle

These are the types of plastic that we can recycle:

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) – used for general packaging and wrapping of consumer goods such as grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, shrink wrap, cling film, and stretchy plastic.

We are not able to process 2kg rice, washing powder and frozen chicken bags.

Polypropylene (PP) – used for woven bags like fertilizer and larger mealie meal packaging, bottle caps and closures.

Biaxially orientated PP (BOPP) – super shiny, clear and crackly plastic with photo realistic printing, for example cat food bags.

HDPE – most plastic bottle closures, milk jugs, chemical bottles, shampoo bottles.

WE ARE UNABLE TO PROCESS PET (SYMBOL 1) AT PRESENT.

How to Separate Your Plastic at Source:

  1. Always re-use any plastic if possible.
  2. Look for the plastic symbol 2, 4, 5 or 7.
  3. If the plastic to be recycled is made of two materials, separate if possible:
    1. Remove bottle tops, rings from bottles.
    2. Cut off paper labels from cling film and discard.
    3. Separate plastic wrap labels from bottles.
  4. Wash off any waste from the plastic to be recycled.

End Use

The above plastic is recycled into plastic pellets that go on to have a second life as plastic grocery bags, food packaging, bin bags and even carpets and clothing.
